Glacier bay is a 100% Displacement Hull and is slower, but the ride is slightly better. I have not tried many but have sent a few for breaking strength test. Member Aquaholik, Charkbait & a store in Asia(out of business now). Those 3 brands I sent all have thinner diameter and higher break strength Stated comparing to Daiwa Samurai (or Boat Braid).I fish this rod most often with a 6oz Hogy Harness jig or sand eel jigs to 16oz. It's been very busy fishing around and I finally can post report of tuna popping trip in Panama in May. I fished on 110' luxurious mothership of Panama Sport Fishing Lodge. I've been fishing Panama about 10 times and I think this trip is the best as far as tuna popping is concerned. My 3 favorites in no particular order are DeepLiner, Hearty Rise, and Poseidon. The DeepLiner logicals and Poseidons, as you know are true slow pitch rods. So they are subject to that occasional wish I didn’t do that lift. Using the 30# braid, tie a nail knot on top of the the hollow spectra, adjacent to the nub, on the reel side. Tighten it TIGHT, until the nail knot turns translucent. If I have to connect heavy mono leader line to heavy fluoro carbon leader line, I'd rather use barrel swivel with short 4 - 6 ft fluoro carbon leader line as any knot to connect heavy mono and fluoro must have a high profile no matter what kind of knot you use and the use of swivel is much stronger.Put the squidder on one if the 7' rods and spool with 15 or 20# P-line and use that as a bait stick for sardines. Fill that Tourium 16 with 40 or 50# spectra and get a short jigging rod, like a United Composites Zeus 2. Get some vertical jigs in the 150-200g range. But they are much heavier. And they don't bend like we like a rod to bend.very few (if any) of the nicer rods on the market are on solid blanks. Glass has traditionally been known to be stronger than graphite or carbon fiber.I would fish #80 to #100 Braid on the popping rod with #130 or #100 Fluor leader. If you hook into a nice Cubera you will need it, and the fish don't seem to mind the heavier leader. I started out using a 20k as "double duty" and the extra line capacity. I was SHOCKED when I actually got an 18k. The difference was night and day. It wasn't made to beat the Stella or saltiga. It was built so that all the okuma junkies could get rid of their Stella's and saltigas and say "look at me!".
